What crew roles and jobs can I do?

Crew roles may vary depending on the production, but run the whole gamut. You can take on a high level creative role as a producer, director or writer. Or maybe you're more interested in the more technical aspects, and want to work as a camera operator, sound technician, photographer or in lighting. Perhaps you want to work behind the scenes as a production manager, art director, set designer, wardrobe, or in post-production as an editor, graphic designer, musician or animator. What about on-camera talent, journalism, make-up or anything else you can think of? Yep, there's probably something for you to do!

Our members gain transferable skills useful in many industries such as film, television, print, radio, web, advertising, PR, marketing, education and many more.

Where is the RMITV Office?

RMIT University – City Campus
Building 57, Level 04, Room 24
We are situated next to Cafe@57, just off Lygon Street!

I’m not an RMIT student, can I still join?

Yes, everyone is welcome! Our members range from RMIT students, to students from other unis, to non-students from all walks of life, to professional industry members.

Once you join up, you will be added to our mailing list and receive call-outs from us as opportunities arise. Hope to have you crewing with us soon!

Can I apply to do work experience or an internship with RMITV?

Unfortunately, we don’t do formal work experience as we are primarily a university student run television production house.

RMITV is nonetheless a great space for up and coming media practitioners to come and experience hands on television production, no matter how young or inexperienced you may be!

Please be aware that some crewing roles will require you to stay back till as late as 11pm – make sure you plan ahead.

I’m not receiving any emails from RMITV

This can be caused by a few things. Most commonly the emails are being redirected to your spam folder, but occasionally it is caused by a typo in your email address.

Contact us directly by email, phone, or pop by the office and we'll get it sorted!

Can I book/hire the RMIT television studios for my own projects?

RMITV uses RMIT University's studios for all our in-house productions. However we are only permitted to do this for non-profit projects which are beneficial to our members education and training. In most cases we cannot book the studio facilities for external purposes, however if your project can be considered as beneficial to our members we are far more likely to be able to help you out.

Why have I stopped receiving emails?

There can only be three reasons for this:
• Your Membership has expired.
• You email provider has marked it as spam.
• Google Apps accounts can have trouble working with Google groups.
For example: RMIT University Google accounts have blocked access to Google groups.

If you have stopped receiving emails and think you should still be receiving emails, shoot an email to info@rmitv.org and we will see what going on.

What equipment should I hire?

This would depend on what you're trying to achieve.
