This is one of the most important films in this year’s festival. I would implore anyone wanting to learn more about Palestinian history to watch it. 

Factually, this film is about the stain that the 1948 Nakba left on its people. Symbolically, it’s about children who are trapped in a cycle of trauma that they will never outlive. It’s terrifying to think of the thousands of children who this story now belongs to, but it is important not to look away.

Hounds, is a bleak portrayal of the criminal underbelly within the Casablancan Medina, where no man is safe from mafia led antics, and this movie gives us a peek into how drastically lives can be changed within one night.

Two Many Chefs (2022) is Joaquín Mazón’s new comedy film that has heart but loses its edge with repetitive jokes and lazy storytelling.

This film, meditative and delicate in its portrayal of two queer men in a muslim country, is important for people being pushed to the margins by ideology that is outdated and homophobic and is therefore an important moment in African cinema, not to be missed.

Mustang follows the story of five young girls growing up in rural Turkey, as they navigate their youth and the looming social expectations of marriage and purity.
