MIFF 2022 Short Film Review - Anyám macskája (Mom’s Cat)

What is to be done when the way you find some fun, is by turning to a cat but because of all that, you bring your mother shame and don’t know who to blame?

This is the conundrum of today’s furbabies. In an oppressive country where work is scarce and your livestream isn’t popping, can life be worse ? Yes, by a long shot. This is an agonising 16 minutes, but it’s also beautiful.

Finding acceptance comes from inside of oneself and to rebuild we must first destroy. I wish life was as simple as it appears in Mom’s Cat, a world where you can really just be what you want to be.

Mom’s Cat is screening as part of the WTF Shorts program at the Melbourne International Film Festival, running in cinemas August 4-21 and online August 11-28. For tickets and more info, click here.
